- Week: 32 Date of planning: April 3th ,2023 Date of teaching: April 11th ,2023 PERIOD 86 UNIT 9: PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT Lesson 3: READING A. AIMS : I. Knowledge: By the end of this lesson, Ss will be able to: 1. Vocabulary: - Practise reading for the main idea and specific information in a text about Environmental problems - Revise sentence stress and become aware of rhythm in speaking - Understand and put words/ phrases related to the environment to good use - Revise and practice the reported speech with statements and questions 2. Grammar: - Revise and practice the reported speech with statements and questions. II. Competences - Develop communication skills and problem-solving skills - Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and teamwork - Actively join in class activities. III.Qualities: - Be ready to be responsible for participating in environmental activities - Develop self-study skills B. TEACHING AIDS: 1- Students : Text books, studying equipment . 2- Teacher: - Grade 10 textbook, laptop, projector / TV/ pictures and cards - Computer connected to the Internet. C. TEACHING PROCEDURES: I. WARM UP & INTRODUCTION ( 5’) *Objective: - To introduce the topic of reading. - To enhance students’ skills of cooperating with teammates. * Content: the topic of reading * Output: the topic of reading * Process: Teacher’s / Student’s activities Content * Game: Slap the board * Game: Slap the board *Class is divided into 2 teams, 2 leaders of 2 teams will play the game, the others support and cheer. *Teacher prepares 12 pictures of environmental issues. Teacher will say the name of one environmental issues and students will have to slap their hands on the appropriate picture.
- II. NEW LESSON (37’) 1. Pre-Reading (5’) ACTIVITY : * Objective: To introduce the topic of the reading and get Ss involved in the lesson. * Content: the topic of the reading * Output: the topic of the reading * Process: Teacher’s/ Student’s activities Content Activity 1: Look at the picture and answer the Activity 1: Look at the picture and answer the question question *Teacher leads students into the lesson by showing 4 pictures on P.103 and asks them the question in Activity 1: What environmental problems do you see in the pictures? Ss work in groups of four and identify the Suggested

While-Reading( 20’) ACTIVITY : * Objective: To help Ss practise reading for the main idea. To provide students with some lexical items To develop reading skill for specific information. To help Ss practise reading for specific information. * Content: reading skill for specific information, the main idea. * Output: reading skill for specific information, the main idea. * Process: Teacher’s/ Student’s activities Content Activity 2: Read the text and choose the best title for it. *Teacher asks students to open the book, read through the text quickly and choose the best title for it. Ss do as required Ss share their answer in pairs. Teacher calls some students to give the answer, finalizes the answer and explains which Key: sentence gives the information. a. Post-Reading ( 12’) ACTIVITY : * Objective: - To help Ss use the ideas and language in the reading to talk about the most serious environmental problem in Viet Nam. - Check Ss’ understanding of the reading passage. - To help some Ss enhance presentation skills * Content: the most serious environmental problem in Viet Nam. * Output: the most serious environmental problem in Viet Nam. * Process: Teacher’s/ Student’s activities Content Activity 5: Discuss the question *Teacher lets students work in groups and discuss the question: Which of the problems mentioned in the text do you think is the most serious in Vietnam?
- 1. Global warming 2. Cutting of forests 3. Air pollution 4. Endangered animals Ss work in groups and decide which is the most serious one in Viet Nam. Teacher calls some students to present their answers in front of the whole class. Teacher allows students to give comments for their friends and vote for the most interesting and informative presentation. Teacher gives feedback and comments III. CONSOLIDATION (2’) To help students memorize the target language and skills that they have learnt * T asks: What have you learnt today? - Practise reading for the main idea and specific information in a text about Environmental problems - Understand and put words/ phrases related to the environment to good use IV. HOMEWORK (1’) - Exercises in the workbook - Prepare for the next lesson V .
